More than dogma

The kids and I were out this morning and saw this on a Unitarian church message board (the physical kind not the internet kind):

“The dogmas of the past are insufficient for the stormy present.”

Who do we think we are anyway?  In our arrogance we think we know better than God, or even that we are or can be God.  We even think we are better and more advanced than all people that have come before us, even though there is much evidence to suggest otherwise.  And we have such a tendency to feel sorry for ourselves and think that the trouble that we face is worse than the trouble of others.  Ecclesiastes says truly that there is nothing new under the sun: both good and bad.

I declare that my Redeemer lives.  He was and is and is to come.  He is the Alpha and Omega-the Beginning and the End.  He is the Creator and Sustainer of this world.  His word is everlasting and He never changes.  He is the only Firm Foundation.  An everlasting Rock.  He is the only source of absolute truth.  He knows and understands everything, and He is the source of all true answers to life’s dilemmas.

The stormy present is caused by all of mankind’s sin, and only God has been able to deal with that by sending His Son Jesus to live a perfect life and then die in our place, taking God’s wrath on Himself that we deserve.

I look forward to the day when all shall bow their knee to Jesus Christ alone and declare that He is Lord!  May God be glorified on the earth.
