My friend Missy lives on a small hobby farm. She invited homeschoolers to come yesterday for Farm Day. Our whole family was able to go, since Rob did not have to work after out-processing from the AF. He had planned to do some needed work around our house, but when he came home he told us he had changed his mind and was coming with us. He said that one of the reasons he was getting out of the Air Force was so he could spend more time with his family, and this was a perfect opportunity. It is an evidence of God’s grace in his life, and we were so excited that he could come too.
The kids got to ride Duke, the horse. We were so proud of the kids for riding and not getting scared. Sarah really wasn’t sure about the whole thing, but she did it anyway and never once let go. She decided to only go around once, but she never screamed or cried. It is neat to see them grow in maturity. We watched a spinning demonstration, and we had a tour of the farm: learning about plants and animals. The boys got to milk a goat. The county extension agent was there helping the children with the horse, and handing out 4-H materials. We had a great time, and met some neat homeschool families. It made us look forward even more to having our own small farm in Virginia one day!
